Kim Jong-il Demands the Removal of DPRK Videos from YouTube
Hot on the heels of Viacom, yet another copyright holder, the Democratic People¡Çs Republic of Korea (DPRK), also known as North Korea, has issued a demand that their video contents be removed from the video sharing web site YouTube. In an interview broadcast on the DPRK¡Çs Korean Central Television network, no less than the DPRK¡Çs strong arm leader Kim Jong-il voiced the following statement. ¡ÈIt is completely outrageous that the lackeys of the criminal capitalist oligarchy in the US, Google and YouTube, are stealing the fruits of the honest labor of the DPRK¡Çs proletarian video producers and artists. Unless our videos are taken down immediately and effective measures taken to avoid this happening again, these imperialist aggressors will know the invincible, single-minded and righteous wrath of the Korean people!¡É The broadcast video then broadcast a mash-up using Google Earth showing the trajectory of DPRK Taepodong-2 missiles being launched towards Google¡Çs headquarters in Mountain View as well as server farms in Tokyo and China. In the background Kim Jong-il¡Çs voice could be heard saying, ¡ÈDMCA takedowns? We don¡Çt need no stinking DMCA takedowns!¡É
Due to ¡Èa company emergency,¡É a Google spokesperson was not immediately available for comment. However, according to people familiar with the internal negotiations, Kim Jong-il is actually looking for Google to provide funding as well as Hollywood contacts for his planned production of ¡ÈSocialist Heroes of the Nuclear Age.¡É The movie is planned to star Snoop Dog as the nuclear scientist Hong Gil-dong and Paris Hilton as his girlfriend Rhee Areum as they fight to save the DPRK¡Çs peaceful nuclear secrets from the evil IAEA agent Dave Smith (to be played by Anthony Hopkins) who wants to sell them to the CIA:-)
Here are two examples of disputed DPRK videos being shared on YouTube.
